Last of San Diego

Day 7-9:  We got up Friday morning and decided to go back over to Balboa Park and visit the car museum.  They had 80 cars and motorcycles that were pretty cool.  Greg took alot of photos but I wasnt sure if everyone would want to see a bunch of car photos.  If you do e-mail me and I'd be happy to send them to you, otherwise you can thank me for not making you look at all of them. So I decided to post only the shots of the ones with the boys in them.
Of course we hung out in the kids section for a bit.  They were playing the movie Cars 2, so I sat and watched with O for a bit.  Ay decided to ride the motorcycle...
And Em decided he's take his truck out for a bit.

I love this picture that Greg took.  Sorry it doesnt have boys in it but you have to admit,
it is a cool photo.

I glanced at the board before I said "fine I'll be the girl", and I was thinking that she was just some scantily clad girl standing next to a guy with a gun.  Then after looking at the photo I noticed that the scantily clad girl had a gun as well.... should have made a mean face!

The boys freaked when they could get this close to a lamborghini.

No idea what this car is, but when O said "Take mine picture", I did.

After the museum we had a couple of hours to spend before we met back up with Doug and Jenny.  So we parked and walked around the Park.  We came upon this tree!!! What I would not give to have a tree (or 3) like this in my yard.  This is a Fig Tree that is 90 years old.  It is 80 feet tall and a trunk girth (hahaha love the word girth) of 42 feet!!!! Yes 42 feet can you believe it.  It's canopy is 145 feet.  It was pure torture that we could not go play on this behemoth.  Wow!
This is a close up of the trunk

We also went into this botanical garden.  It had some of the most beautiful and unusual orchids I have ever seen (if you want pictures then you can email me again).  So then we met up with Doug at the hotel and we drove to La Jolla.  We found a great spot to watch some seals and sea lions.
There was a interesting little cave that had some tide pools in it.
This is the view from the other side of the cave, maybe not a cave more like a tunnel out of rock.

Ok sorry, again the trees! Check this one out.  It looked like it had yucca's on top!

Then of course it was a bit chilly and the boys said they wouldnt get in the water (but since I'm the best mom ever, I packed suits and towels.)  5 min after we got to the sand, they "wished" they had thier swim suits.  MOM to the rescue.

Dad even played in the water with the boys.  In this picture he's telling the boys to wait till the wave hit them.  Then just before he ran off so he didnt get wet!

Notice we put O in a very dull colored shirt for this beach trip!  He didnt wander very far this time and just wanted to "be by mom!"
After they were done in the water, we went and had some lunch. Then walked to another seal beach.  We watched from the top for a bit. Then we walked out on the little walk way. O could only take the smell for about 2 min and then he was done.

Then we walked back to where we started, met up with Jenny and found this great spot to watch the tide come in.  I could watch the waves crash on the rocks all day.
Ay was pretty worn out so he hung out on the wall with Doug and watched the seals/sea lions.  O was back and forth from the wall to the rocks.

Then we decided to drive back along the water.  Doug and Jenny took us to this cool boardwalk.  We walked out and watched some surfers, watched some fisherman release a sting ray they had caught.

Then drove a little more and went to ride this old wooden roller coaster.  Jenny had told us all about it and I am bummed I didnt get a different photo of it. It was funny because she was freaking out about it but wanted to go so bad.  So here we are, little does she know Greg loves to yell on roller coaster.  This was the ROUGHEST roller coaster ever.  Oh my gosh I almost got whiplash, thought I was going to end up with bruises on my legs from slambing side to side.  Jenny lost her sunglasses 1/2 way though and had her eyes closed the whole time.  After every corner I was just hoping it was over.  Hahahahaha, that is another thing I will not forget about the trip.  Poor Jenny was so beat up after word. All we could do was laugh, even though I think we both wanted to cry.

We then went and had icecream and sadly said Bye.  Doug and Jenny, we had a great time.  Thanks for hanging out with us.  Thanks for taking us to some great places.  Thanks for your tight hugs after we lost the little guy.  Thanks for the start of a great friendship.
Back at the hotel, the older boys and Greg spent time in the pool.  O and I were just ready to hang out and be mellow.  Grandma has been working on drawing with him and taught him to make spirals.  So he started drawing and drawing and drawing.
This was what he drew.  I think he did a fantasitc job.

The next morning, we packed up and headed out.  We got to Phoenix about 4 and Jeff (and fam) took us to Bass Pro Shop.  I have never seen one of these places before and I must say "Holy Smokes".  From archery ranges, to shooting ranges, to a fishing pond, this is the biggest outdoors store ever.  We loved the shooting range.  O kept wanting to play so we would just pretend to put a quater in and he would shoot away.  Then we all went to dinner.
Sunday morning we woke up and headed home.  We spent the week in a cloudy mid 60's and returned home to high 90's.  It was a super fun trip.  Hope to go back to San Diego again soon.
