Spring Break part 3

After we left Las Cruces we drove to Carlsbad Caverns. The drive was, lets just say BORING. There is a whole lot of nothin' down south and flatter than a pancake. The Cavern is a little ways off the highway about 20 min from Carlsbad itself. We decided to do the 1.5 mile hike to the bottom, it is 754 feet down to the bottom. Can't imagine what it was like for Jim White when he stumbled upon this cave.... little did he know what he had found. An amazing place, so glad I could go back. I had forgotten what it was like. The last time I was there I was 10, just like Em. The boys beacame Jr.Rangers here at the Caverns also, they got a certificate and a patch.
Here are my favorite shots from our journey to the center of the earth.

This is where Ay started to get a little nervous. The grip on my hand got tighter and tighter, he was so cute. Once we got to the bottom he was fine. Em was the same way, is a bit scared of heights so he didn't like the decent much.
Almong the trail
This is one of the largest of the stalagmites in the cave

Me and my guys, near the end. It is a hike for sure, my legs were sore for a couple of days.

I think this one looks like a throat, even has the uvula!

After the Caverns we headed to Roswell. This was the only UFO we saw! The worst part was, they were cleaning the playground so the boys didnt even get to play.
Race to the car, time to head home
Ready to sleep in my bed
One quick stop outside of Rosewell is Bottomless Lakes State Park. It would be a great place to visit in the summer but this day we only got out of the car for a second. The wind was blowing and it was bitter cold. The lakes were formed from Caverns that filled with water and the roofs caved in. They look like they don't have a bottom and go on forever.

The half way mark on the way home was the Abq. Aquarium. A good place for the boys to get out and run around for a bit. I could spend hours in front of the shark tank.

Well, that is it.... our trip in a nut shell. We had a great time.

Wow that is a huge trip! I never have made it all over New Mexico. Maybe someday. Thanks for highlighting all of those neat places to go! I also can't believe how big O looks. Maybe it's just on camera, but he looks to me like he's 3 or something!

That looks so fun! All those years living in NM and I didn't see any of that stuff. What a shame! Your boys are too cute.
