What A Tree

This blog entry is about me. I got asked by a friend of mine to help make a 5 ft tall Christmas Tree out of cake for the Salt Lake Festival Of Trees. So on Sunday Dianne and I headed to Salt Lake and met up with the rest of our team to make our cake. It was quite the experiance. The 1st experiance was when we unloaded the car and I found that all of Dianne's airbrush colors were all over the back of the chair in my car.

The 2nd experiance was being on my feet from 5:30 a.m. untill 12:50a.m. That was a long day! So we got to the convention center about 7 and got things set up. The 3rd experiance was realizing that I don't have enough muscles to kneed 35 lbs of fondant. The palms of my hands and my wrists were sore for 2 days, but someone had to do it right!
This next picture is of the little snowmen that I made for the tree.
The artisit, the cowboy and the skateboarder are my favorite.
Here is a photo of all the little things that I made for the tree. It makes me laugh, because as I went through all my photos, the bottle of Everclear is in the middle of all of my pictures. I drank it to keep warm because it was so cold in the place. (Just Kidding, who do you think I am!) You use it to paint gold and silver leaf onto the fondant, the alcohol evaporates really fast leaving the gold leaf exactly where you want it. I made the snowmen, suckers, some of the ribbon candy (non of my ribbon candy made it on the tree), and some little drums.
This is a photo of our wrok in progress. Our frame was a little crooked so I called it the leaning tower of treeza. Oh, the festival wouldn't let us use real cake since it was going to be up for 4 days so the tree is made of foam but everything on it is edible. We were going to try to complete our "Ultimate" Cake in 9 hrs just like the competitions but ours took 14 1/2, guess it is good we practiced. I learned so much and had alot of fun.
Here is our finished tree and our Team, Paula, Lynn, Amelia, Me, and Dianne.
TA-DAH!
A couple of close-ups
The train under the tree actually worked!
Here it is with the angel on top. Her wings got moved in the night and they were broken when we went back the next morning to put them on. So we had a little nurse on the top. Dianne did the nurse angel because the festival up there is for Primary Childrens Hospital.
So that was my crazy, fun, amazing day. I learned a ton and can't wait to do another!!
