My weekend in Tulsa was so much fun. So here are some pictures from my weekend.
So set up is on Friday night and Saturday morning. Everything has to be in place by 10am Saturday because judging starts at 10:30. So Friday night I was hanging out while Dee set up her cake, it was about 10pm. There were people in the exhibit area (even though they were not supposed to be). Dee and I had set up our masks, when all of the sudden we heard a crash. A very old lady in a motorized wheelchair (who didnt know how to drive) drove into the mask table. The table folded in half and the masks went crashing to the floor. My heart sank as I realized my mask was on the other side of the table that was now at a 45 degree angle. I got to the table with a friend and said "oh my gosh look!" My mask was hanging half way off the table. Had some broken pieces but fixed them before I left. A few of us cleaned up the carnage and made little piles of matching colors.
This is one of the tables of masks, mine in the one in the center on the purple backgound.

Here is the other side of the table where the massacre or should I say MASKacre happened.
There was about 8 that were unrepairable.
I did not place in the mask catagory because it was an open catagory. I was competing with people in the Master, Professionals, and such. These are some of my favorites.
There was about 14 gingerbreads this year. Some were very cute. My friend Geri made this one. I forgot to take a photo of the front but the back was open so you could see this scene. It is Hansel and Grettle, Grettle is pushing the witch into the fire.
Here was my prize. My 1st place ribbon and a little gingerbread man holding $100
There was about 58 entries into the Masters Wedding Cake Division. I didnt want to bore those noncake people so these are my fav's or just portions of my favs.
This was one of my top 5. It was so clean and perfect, it got 1st.
OK people! This is royal icing, like the stuff you mix up for gluing a gingerbread together. It looked like porceline. AMAZING, was about 12 inches tall
This is the winning cake. This was her 2nd year of entering the competition and shes 23! Though it was not very big, it was stunning. The hand painting and sugarwork was perfect.
I love that my hubby lets me leave for this show. And I could not go without the help of my sister and mom. Thanks for letting me do nothing but work on a house for a month and then leave the house a mess. I am already planning for next year :0)
