Oklahoma Sugar Atrs Show- Tulsa OK

I just got back from spending 8 days in 6 days in Tulsa OK for the Sugar Arts Show. I took my Gingerbread house and I ended up getting 2nd place. It was great. I am a little bummed because 1st place was this small carousel that was nothing special but it whatever, I'm over it. I got some great prizes and I had a absolute blast. Met some great new friends and saw some AMAZING sugar work. There was 600 entires this year, that includes all of the divisions and kids. I mainly went to see the Grand National Cake division work. There were 89 in that division and that is where the $$$ is. The Grand Prize winner walked away with 20,000 in cash and prizes!! All I can say is WOW, the cakes were absolutly stunning. Here were my favorites.

This is by Rebecca Sutterby. This is my favorite out of all of the cakes. Simply perfect! If I could take one of her flower making classes I would fly anywhere to learn from her.

The hydrengeas looked so real on this cake. And the piping work was stunning.

Loved the butterflies and flowers on this one
The colors were so great on this one.

This one was one of the top 6
I didnt really like this one, I was just impressed with all the hand painting on it.

LOVE the color and pattern of this one. Wouldn't choose it as my "wedding cake" but such a cute idea and patterm.
This is by Dawn Parrott, I met her at the show and we hung out quite a bit. She is so fun and does amazing stringwork.
This is Stringwork. Each line is piped on one at a time.
This is by Joshua John Russell. I took at 2 day class that he assisted with. I am so in love with him. He's adorable, cute, funny, and a great cake decorator. Here is the winning cake. So does it look like a 20,000 cake to you?
Love the butterflies on this one as well. They were so life like.
Love the stringwork on this one. I love how they made it drape like curtins. On the close up look how the stringwork is on a seperate layer, it doesnt touch anything. This is made by Karen Portillo, she is the one that taugh the 2 day class that I took.
The bird is made out of modeling chocolate.I just wanted to eat this one.
I have my work cut out for me if I want to catch up to these guys. What an amazing week. Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.
